Popular Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Dele Momodu has warned that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is on the brink of a major internal crisis, attributing the turmoil to entrenched leadership styles and power struggles within the party.
Momodu stated that the recent challenges facing Vice President Kashim Shettima are not unprecedented, comparing them to the political downfalls experienced by several Deputy Governors in Lagos State, including former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, who he described as the party’s “biggest casualty.” Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, he noted, narrowly escaped a similar fate.
The PDP figure also dismissed surprise over the political alliance between President Bola Tinubu and Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike, describing them as “birds of the same feathers” and labeling both as “maximum rulers” who dominate their spheres of influence.
Speaking on Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, Momodu called him a “tragic hero” whose political relevance has expired after years of loyalty to Tinubu. He issued a cautionary note to former Akwa Ibom Governor Godswill Akpabio, emphasizing that the current power within APC is centered solely on Tinubu, where no one is indispensable.
Momodu warned of a ruthless political environment likened to Machiavellian tactics, where “more victims will fall” and “no one is sacred.” He noted that Ganduje is already being held responsible for the APC’s troubles, with some analysts suggesting he should have reinstated former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai after his rejection by the National Assembly. However, Ganduje reportedly refrained from intervening due to the prevailing power dynamics.
The PDP chieftain’s comments highlight growing tensions within the ruling party as Nigeria approaches a critical political period.
