A violent mob in Edo State set more than ten people ablaze after accusing them of being kidnappers. The incident occurred in Uromi, where the victims, reportedly hunters travelling from Rivers State to Kano, were stopped for a routine search by local vigilantes.
During the search, weapons including guns and machetes were discovered, along with a dog and other personal belongings. Residents, suspecting them of being kidnappers, escalated the situation, leading to a brutal attack. The mob overpowered the suspects, setting them on fire before security operatives could intervene.
By the time authorities arrived, all the victims had been burned beyond recognition. The bodies have since been evacuated, and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
In the meantime, the Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has condemned the incident and ordered a full investigation to arrest the perpetrators.
