The Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, on has visited the Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) Pathfinder in Rivers State as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen maritime security and protect national oil and gas assets.
Senator Lokpobiri was received on arrival by the Commander, NNS Pathfinder, Commodore Cajethan Aniaku, who briefed him on the Base’s operations, including current maritime security activities within the Rivers area, protection of critical oil and gas infrastructure, and ongoing collaborations with stakeholders to curb crude oil theft and illegal bunkering.
The Minister, accompanied by Commodore Aniaku and other senior officers, later proceeded to Dawes Island 3 for an on-site inspection of the Pertralon 54 oil rig and its associated facilities. The tour offered him firsthand insight into the installation’s operational status, existing security measures, and key challenges that require enhanced support and inter-agency cooperation to ensure improved efficiency.
Senator Lokpobiri commended the Nigerian Navy for its unwavering commitment to securing the nation’s maritime domain and safeguarding vital oil-related assets. He particularly praised NNS Pathfinder for its contributions to national economic stability, noting that its sustained operations continue to play a critical role in creating a safer maritime environment.
