The Federal Government has warned that private employers paying below the 70,000 new minimum wage risk jail term.
John Nyamali, Director of Employment and Wages, Ministry of Labour and Employment made this known during the Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria, on Wednesday, in Lagos.
He said the minimum wage is now a law and must obeyed, adding that it is a punishable crime to pay less.
“The minimum wage is now a law, and as a result, it is a punishable crime for any employer to pay less than N70,000 to any of its workers,” John said.
