The Nigerian Armed Forces on Thursday formally retired 542 senior Non-Commissioned Officers after 35 years of active service.

The disengagement ceremony, held at the Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) in Oshodi, Lagos, included 362 personnel from the Nigerian Army, 134 from the Nigerian Navy, and 46 from the Nigerian Air Force.

Speaking at the event, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, represented by the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC), Major General Aligbe Obhiozele, praised the retirees for their dedication and discipline throughout their military careers.

“Today we celebrate your courage, discipline, and selfless service to our great nation,” he said. “Your 35-year journey embodies the finest military traditions of resilience and patriotism.”

The Army chief urged the ex-servicemen to maintain the values instilled in them throughout their service as they transition into civilian life. He also cautioned them against common post-retirement challenges such as financial mismanagement and neglect of personal health, stressing that society expects exemplary conduct from retired military personnel.
