Meta, the U.S.-based tech giant and parent company of Facebook and Instagram, has warned it may restrict access to its social media platforms in Nigeria following a series of regulatory penalties.
The warning comes after three Nigerian regulatory agencies collectively fined Meta over $290 million last year for alleged violations of local laws. Meta’s legal challenge to the fines was recently dismissed by a High Court in Abuja, intensifying tensions between the company and Nigerian authorities.
Officials have yet to comment on the potential impact of Meta’s threat on millions of Nigerian users.
