Media personnel, Amaechi Okonkwo, has raised concern over persistent flooding along the Mile 1 Road axis, particularly in front of the Mile 1 Mosque and Post Office, directly opposite the yet-to-be-opened Mile 1 Market.
Okonkwo, who shared photographs taken days earlier, observed that the area was already severely waterlogged hours before the heavy rainfall that followed later that day. He said the situation underscores a worsening environmental and infrastructural problem that could escalate unless urgent remedial measures are implemented.
He warned that the affected section of the road is exposed to heavy traffic and intense commercial activities, factors that could accelerate its deterioration if flooding is not properly addressed. Okonkwo expressed concern that without timely intervention, the road could soon fall into serious disrepair.
Calling for immediate action, he urged the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), as well as the Federal and State Ministries of Works, to take note of the situation and implement corrective measures to prevent imminent dilapidation of the road and ensure the safety of road users and businesses in the area.
