A media executive, Ufuoma Egbamuno, has expressed worry over the failure of the Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, to release a statement to mark International Women’s Day, describing the silence as unacceptable.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Egbamuno raised concerns that the governor and his media team did not publicly acknowledge the global celebration observed annually on March 8.
He noted that the omission was particularly surprising given that the state’s deputy governor is a woman.
Egbamuno also questioned the governor’s continued silence over the alleged attack on former Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Amaechi, which reportedly occurred in Ikwerre Local Government Area on Friday.
According to him, more than 50 hours after the reported incident, there had been no official statement from the governor or his media team addressing the situation.
“Dear Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara, yesterday was International Women’s Day. The celebration is a yearly event on March 8th. Your deputy is a woman. There’s not one word from your media team to mark the day,” he said.
He added that the alleged attack on Amaechi also remained unaddressed by the state government.
“On Friday, a former governor was allegedly attacked in Rivers State. Fifty-plus hours after, not a single word from you or your media team. That’s unacceptable,” he stated.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Government had not issued any official response regarding the concerns raised.
