The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria has threatened to halt its activities in Rivers State if their over 8 abducted workers are not released within one month.
Deputy National President of the union, Francis Bunu said this during a press briefing in the state on Thursday.
He said the workers were returning from a meeting when they were abducted by unknown gunmen along the Kula-Abonema waterways.
Bunu, called on the government at all levels and relevant security agencies to with immediate effect, ensure the release of the abductees.
He appealed to the state government to increase surveillance on the waterways, as persons are been kidnapped on a daily basis.
Bunu, also alleged that currently, no vessel can enter any of the ports in the state due to the high level of insecurity on its waterways.
