Ugbokodo, Delta State – The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man identified simply as Paul, who allegedly stabbed his younger brother, Saturday, to death during a dispute over N2,000.
The incident occurred on Thursday evening at Ugbokodo waterside in Okpe Local Government Area. Police spokesperson SP Bright Edafe confirmed the development in a message to reporters, stating, “Confirmed,” and noting that the suspect is in custody.
According to eyewitness accounts, the suspect’s wife accused the deceased of stealing N2,000 and seized his shirt during a heated exchange. The confrontation escalated when the deceased reportedly slapped the woman, prompting neighbors to intervene.
In retaliation, the suspect, known locally as Papa Jeffery, allegedly returned to the scene with his son. They tracked the deceased to the riverside and attacked him, stabbing him multiple times.
In the aftermath, irate youths from the community torched the suspect’s residence and his wife’s shop. Security forces, including soldiers and police officers, were deployed to restore order.
