A yet-to-be identified man was yesterday, crushed to death by a garbage truck around the Rumuigbo axis of Obio/Akpor local government area, Rivers State.
Sector Head of Operations, Federal Road Safety Corps, Rivers State, Chukwuma Nbaegbu, who confirmed the incident, said four other persons were injured.
He said after they were informed of the incident, they got there in less than 30 minutes, but the victims had been taken away.
Spokesperson of the state Police Command, DSP, Grace Koko also confirmed the incident in a statement.
She said the driver of the truck fled after the incident, adding that investigation is on to ensure his arrest.
Eyewitnesses say: “Around, the truck lost balance, fell off the road and rammed into some persons. One of them (victims) was here this morning. He had injuries on his head and leg. He said he was looking for someone. That was when we looked under the truck and saw the missing person under the truck.”
