A man identified as Dornu Nkari has been arrested during the ongoing Rivers State pensioners’ verification exercise for allegedly impersonating his late brother.
Officials uncovered the fraud after detecting a mismatch in the state’s biometric database. Nkari’s nephew, Barine Nuete, confessed to persuading him to impersonate his deceased father in a bid to raise funds for burial expenses.
Confirming the incident, Acting Head of Service, Dr. Inyingi Brown, said the case underscores the effectiveness of the verification exercise and warned against fraudulent practices.
Both men have been handed over to the police and are currently in custody for further investigation.
