Logistics riders on Monday staged a protest at the Waterlines Flyover in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, to condemn what they described as persistent extortion by officers of the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO).
The protesters, who gathered in large numbers, carried placards with various inscriptions such as “VIO is extorting us” and “End activities of VIO.” They accused VIO officials of harassing them and collecting illegal fees under various pretexts.
Speaking to reporters, some of the riders demanded an immediate end to what they termed “unjust treatment” by the traffic enforcement agency, urging the state government to intervene and reform the unit’s operations.
