The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission ( NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, says its “Light Up the Niger Delta” project will be expanded to more communities.
Ogbuku disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, highlighting the project as a cornerstone of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda in the Niger Delta region.
According to him, the initiative, which focuses on installing solar-powered street lights, aims to combat crime, enhance socio-economic activities, and foster peace in the region.
Ogbuku noted that introducing solar streetlights has improved community safety, created a conducive environment for peaceful living, and reduced criminal activities that often thrive in darkness,”
He emphasised the environmental benefits of solar energy, mentioning plans to extract the carbon credits linked to the project. He encouraged the youths of the Niger Delta to support the Federal Government’s policies, expressing optimism about the positive changes these efforts will bring to the region.
