The Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) has announced plans to release the list of political party aspirants cleared to contest in the August 30 local government elections.
RSIEC Chairman, Michael Odey, disclosed this on Friday during a visit by members of the House of Representatives Ad-hoc Committee on Emergency Rule Implementation. Odey said the commission is working with security agencies to ensure a free and fair exercise, adding that it remains undistracted by what he described as a “sideshow.” He also reaffirmed RSIEC’s readiness for the polls.
Chairman of the Ad-hoc Committee, Professor Julius Ihonvbere, urged RSIEC to engage key stakeholders, including the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), at every stage of preparations for the election.
