The Executive Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo says he is not having sleepless nights over the outcome of the October 5th local government election in Rivers State.
Speaking while appearing before the election petition tribunal for cross examination, Ihunwo said that he followed the laid down procedures in the build up to the local government election held on October 5th, 2024.
During his cross examination, Amb. Ihunwo told the panel that he duly resigned as the caretaker committee chairman of Obio/Akpor local government on September 2nd 2024, more than a month to the October 5th election.
According to him, he sent his letter to Governor Siminalayi Fubara which was duly acknowledged.
He rejected claims by the lawyer representing the plaintiff that he was still performing the duties of the council chairman after his resignation.
“I am sure that the court will give judgment in our favour after critically examining our positions regarding the petition, like I told the tribunal, I resigned my appointment as the CTC chairman of Obio/Akpor local government a month before the October 5th election and never returned to the office nor performed any role in that regard until I was elected on October 5th and sworn-in by His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara on October 6th,2024 at the Government House in Port Harcourt.”
“Their claims are not only fictitious but mere fabrications which I’m certain will not stand the test of time when tested in law.” he said.
As you may know the chairmanship candidate of the Action Alliance in the October 5th local government election, Comrade Okechukwu Amadi is accusing Ihunwo of performing the duties of the council chairman after his resignation as CTC Chairman, and wants him disqualified.
The three member panel is chaired by His Worship, P.M.F.Poromon Esq. adjourned the matter to the 10th of January for continuation of hearing.
