Tony Okocha, Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State, has hailed the party’s landslide victory in last Saturday’s local government elections as a precursor to winning the state in the 2027 general elections.
The APC secured 20 of the 23 local government chairmanship seats, while the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) won the remaining three.
Speaking on the outcome, Okocha described the results as a clear indication of the APC’s growing influence in Rivers State and across Nigeria. “We have just tested the waters to see our strength in our state, and it’s proven beyond reasonable doubt that we are very strong. So, it is a prelude to what will happen in 2027,” he said.
Okocha added that the party plans to sustain and build on this momentum ahead of the 2027 elections, in which President Bola Tinubu is expected to seek a second term in office.
