The Rivers State Police Command has reacted to the invasion of Sen. Lee Maeba’s house in GRA Port Harcourt by heavily armed thugs on Thursday morning.
State Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, in a statement shortly after the incident said a full-scale investigation has been ordered to unravel the motive behind the attack.
Sources say armed thugs numbering 200 stormed Lee Maeba’s home and destroyed properties worth millions.
Reacting to the incident, the former federal lawmaker alleged that he called the Police Commissioner, Okon Effiong as the attack was ongoing but, he did not respond and never returned his calls.
He also said that the thugs were after his life for supporting presidential candidate of the party Atiku Abubakar, adding that nobody can instill fear in him or take his life.
Meanwhile the state Commissioner for Information and Communications, Chris Finebone has called on the Police to “exercise the highest level of diligence, discreetness and carefulness in their work to sift the wheat from the chaff in order to arrive at a credible conclusion.
He also said “it is not strange to find politicians staging high-level melodrama to either cover up their tracks or muddle up the waters to achieve a preconceived narrative aimed at hoodwinking the public for political reasons, especially at a time like this.“
