A member of the House of Representatives, Cyril Hart, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to establish two new state constituencies in Rivers State — Degema State Constituency II and Bonny State Constituency II.
In a letter dated July 7, 2025, and addressed to INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, Hart cited Section 112 of the 1999 Constitution, which empowers the commission to periodically review state constituencies to reflect population shifts and improve governance.
According to Hart, the creation of the proposed constituencies would strengthen political representation and enhance service delivery for residents of the affected areas.
