The Wife of the Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara, has called on parents and guardians to prioritise the moral and spiritual upbringing of children, describing it as a cornerstone for a peaceful, stable, and progressive society.
Lady Fubara made the appeal during her Christmas Day visits to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH) and the Port Harcourt Children’s Home in Borokiri, where she celebrated the festive season with newborns, children, and caregivers.
She stressed that raising children with sound moral values and the fear of God is a shared responsibility that will positively shape the future of Rivers State, contributing to its long-term development and social stability.
At RSUTH, Lady Fubara distributed gifts to newborns and paediatric patients, bringing joy to families spending Christmas within the hospital. Among those celebrated were Baby Eric Blessing, weighing 2.7kg and delivered at 12:27 a.m., and Baby Ann Amadi, delivered at 2:00 a.m., adding warmth and cheer to the occasion.
During her visit to the Port Harcourt Children’s Home, Borokiri, she reassured the children and their caregivers of the continued support of the Siminalayi Fubara-led administration. She affirmed that the welfare, protection, and holistic development of vulnerable children remain a key priority of the state government, with commitments to sustained care and support.
Speaking at the hospital, the Chief Medical Director of RSUTH, Professor Chizindu Alikor, praised the state government for its investment in healthcare infrastructure, noting that the improvements have greatly enhanced service delivery and provided patients with quality care in a modern and conducive environment.
