A young woman identified as Rita Eleonu, from Ndele community in Emohua Local Government Area of Rivers State, has been reportedly killed after meeting a man she allegedly connected with through social media.
According to reports, the incident occurred in December 2025 following a contact initiated after the victim’s photograph was shared on WhatsApp by a friend. The man reportedly expressed interest in meeting Rita, and her friend sought her consent before sharing her contact details.
The suspect allegedly contacted the victim and arranged a meeting for a paid engagement. Although an initial appointment was fixed, Rita reportedly did not show up on the agreed date but later honoured the meeting on another day of her choice.
Sources allege that she was killed after arriving at the meeting location under circumstances that are now under investigation by security agencies.
It was further reported that the suspect attempted to flee but was apprehended by residents in the area, who restrained him before handing him over to operatives of the Nigeria Police Force.
As of the time of filing this report, the Rivers State Police Command has yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
