EDUCATION IS PIVOTAL TO DEVELOPMENT – LADY FUBARA
…Presents 50,000 exercise books to public schools in Rivers State
Wife of Rivers State Governor, Lady Valerie Fubara has said education is pivotal to the development of the society.
Lady Fubara made this known at the occasion of presentation of 50,000 exercise books under the aegis of the Renewed Hope Initiative at Government House, Port Harcourt on Monday.
While acknowledging the valuable programmes of Renewed Hope Initiative of the wife of the President, Senator Remi Tinubu in the State, Lady Fubara emphasised that the provision of the books is to support education of school children in the state, stressing that the initiative had earlier empowered the elderly in the state.
She restated that education is one of the cardinal pillars of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration and commended the wife of the President for the books as it will help in promoting quality education for a better Nigeria, and emphasised that the books should only be distributed to children in public schools across the 23 local government areas of the state.
“The presentation of these exercise books is therefore synergetic in promoting quality education for a better Nigeria. So, it is gratifying that children are the prime beneficiaries of this particular scheme.”
According to her, “The initiative is in line with our determined efforts of advancing and sustaining quality programmes that uplift and give hope to our people. It is indeed, an initiative that will make Rivers State and Nigeria better “
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedu Mmon appreciated the efforts of the initiative and Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Fubara for the commitment at ensuring the books are donated to children across the state.
He expressed gratitude for the wonderful vision as parents suffer a lot to train their children, adding that the books will serve as a relief to parents.
On his part, the Principal of Community Secondary School, UBE, Ogbogoro Mr. Micah Toby commended the Rivers first lady, Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Fubara for the gesture noting that with the books, the cost will be applied to other uses by parents.
Highlights of the event were the presentation of the books to the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Chinedu Mmom and symbolic presentation to students from Community Secondary School, Ogbogoro and Community Secondary school, Erema by Her Excellency, Lady Valerie Fubara.
