The Labour Party, led by Senator Nenadi Usman, has criticised President Bola Tinubu for announcing monetary rewards for the Super Falcons in U.S. dollars rather than in the Nigerian naira.
In a statement issued by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the party’s Interim National Chairman, the party described the move as “utterly shameful” and unpatriotic. The statement condemned what it called the symbolic preference of the U.S. dollar over Nigeria’s national currency, warning that such actions undermine the naira and reflect poorly on the administration’s commitment to economic sovereignty.
The party also referenced the continued depreciation of the naira under the current administration, noting the currency’s plunge from around N500 to over N1,500 per dollar.
