The Labour Party has issued a strict 48-hour ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Peter Gregory Obi, demanding his immediate resignation amid reports of his involvement in a newly formed political coalition.
In a press statement dated Wednesday, July 3, 2025, and signed by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the Labour Party condemned the coalition, labeling it a gathering of “recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians” lacking a genuine vision for Nigeria’s future.
“The oft-repeated slogan ‘New Nigeria is Possible’ cannot be realized through an alliance of opportunists seeking to regain political power,” Ifoh said.
The party further accused Obi of holding covert meetings with Labour Party members, attempting to coax them into defecting to the coalition. However, several members reportedly rejected the overtures and reaffirmed their loyalty to Labour.
Emphasizing zero tolerance for divided loyalties, the Labour Party warned, “The party is not available for people with a dual agenda… In the morning, they claim to be with Labour Party; in the evening, they are with the coalition.”
The statement reaffirmed the party’s commitment to being the sole platform dedicated to building a progressive Nigeria rooted in the aspirations of its youth.
Members were urged to remain united and loyal as the party prepares for upcoming elections.
