The chairmanship candidates of the Labour Party (LP) in Rivers State have formally rejected a recent statement issued by the self-styled “Coalition of Political Parties” regarding the outcome of the 30 August 2025 local government elections.
In a joint press release, the LP candidates said they were neither consulted nor represented by the coalition, describing its position as misleading and an attempt to undermine the electoral process.
“We are not members of the coalition, and none of its members contested the election. Its statement is a distortion of the truth and an affront to democracy,” the candidates said.
The LP chairmanship aspirants confirmed that they have instructed their legal teams to file petitions with the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) election tribunal, citing irregularities and breaches during the polls.
They urged the public, media, and relevant institutions to disregard the coalition’s claims, insisting that the statement does not reflect their position.
The candidates reiterated their commitment to democratic principles, the rule of law, and ensuring that the will of the people of Rivers State prevails.
Signatories to the statement include Hon. Dienye Pepple (Opobo/Nkoro), Miller Ngozi Chika (Emuoha), Fidelis Ikebuluwa (Ahoada East), Charles Inko-Tarriah (Asari/Toru), and Hon. Prince Tonye Jeminimiema (Bonny).
