Chairman of the Rivers State Civil Society Organizations, Enefaa Georgewill says illegal oil refining activities popularly known as ‘Kpofire’ is still booming in the state.
Th outspoken Human Rights Activist, disclosed this in a statement, on Wednesday.
According to him, there is availability of the product in all nooks and crannies of the state, and that the State Governor, Nyesom Wke cannot stop it.
“Kpofire Business Is Still Booming In Rivers State. Don’t Ask Me How. Check Availability Of The Product In Every Street. Wike Can’t Fight Kpofire,” he said.
Enefaa, who has been at the forefront in the fight to end soot in the state, had in a statement called on the state government to clampdown on the illegal activity by arresting sponsors and owners of the business, and not field workers alone.
He noted that arresting field workers while their paymasters are left alone, would not bring an end to the menace.
You would recall that the state governor, had few weeks ago, ordered local government chairmen to clampdown on illegal oil refining activities in their areas.
