The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has criticised the decision of the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to impose a movement restriction across the territory from 8pm on Friday to 6am on Saturday.
Kingibe described the directive as unprecedented in the history of the FCT, noting that residents were being prevented from moving around after 8pm for the first time.
According to her, many residents do not understand the rationale behind the restriction, especially as it affects people with legitimate evening engagements and responsibilities.
She argued that such a curfew places unnecessary limitations on citizens’ freedom in a democratic society, stressing that residents should not be subjected to sweeping restrictions without clear justification
