The Bonny Local Government Council has confirmed a security incident involving a suspected kidnapping in the area, prompting immediate action by security agencies and local authorities.
According to a press statement issued by the council, the incident occurred on Monday night, following intelligence received by the Local Government Surveillance Team about a suspected kidnap attempt around Aganya Community in Bonny.
Security agencies were promptly alerted, leading to the deployment of a joint security response team to the scene. However, preliminary reports indicate that the suspects fled with a victim identified as Mr. Eze Benedict.
The assailants were said to have escaped through Macaulay Community, where the victim’s vehicle was later discovered abandoned, before navigating their way out via the Admiralty Creek under the cover of darkness.
Reacting to the development, the Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Amasenibo Hon. Abinye Blessing Pepple, called on residents to remain calm and adhere to the law as efforts intensify to apprehend the perpetrators.
As part of immediate measures, the chairman has directed security operatives to shut down and monitor all waterway exit routes across the creeks within the council area. He also ordered increased patrols in affected communities to prevent further incidents and track down the suspects.
Residents have been urged to stay vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by providing useful information that could aid in the rescue of the victim and arrest of those responsible.
The council assured that security presence has been reinforced across Bonny, adding that further updates will be communicated as the situation develops.
