Detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump to launch an independent inquiry into what he alleges are ongoing killings of Christians and Igbo people in Nigeria’s South East region.
Kanu, who made the request in a letter addressed to the US president, insists that urgent international intervention is needed to address the situation and safeguard the lives and rights of people in the affected communities.
The separatist leader is currently facing terrorism charges filed by the Federal Government of Nigeria, accusations he has repeatedly denied while maintaining that he is being persecuted for seeking self-determination for his people.
