The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has informed the Federal High Court in Abuja that the medical condition of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, is not life-threatening.
Appearing before the court on Thursday, the NMA clarified that based on medical evaluations, Kanu is fit to stand trial despite his health concerns.
The association’s report was presented in response to claims by Kanu’s legal team that his deteriorating health required urgent medical attention outside the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
However, the NMA maintained that while Kanu has some health challenges, they are manageable and do not prevent him from facing trial.
The court is expected to rule on the admissibility of the medical report and subsequent applications from both the defence and prosecution at the next sitting.
