ABUJA – The Supreme Court of Nigeria has refuted claims circulating on social media that Justice Emmanuel Agim accompanied the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to the University of Calabar’s convocation ceremony on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

In an official statement signed by the court’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Akande Festus, the apex court dismissed the reports as false and misleading.

The court clarified that Justice Agim attended the event as an honouree and distinguished alumnus of the institution. The university’s Governing Council had conferred upon him an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Law (Doctor Honoris Causa) in recognition of his contributions.

The Supreme Court further stressed that Justice Agim’s presence at the convocation was entirely independent and unrelated to any government function, emphasizing that he neither represented nor accompanied any serving or former government official.
