President Bola Tinubu has ordered the swift implementation of free healthcare services for low-income retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS), calling it a vital part of social protection and retirement dignity.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) made this known in a statement.
He said the President also directed the immediate enforcement of long-delayed pension increases and the establishment of a minimum pension guarantee to support the most vulnerable pensioners under the CPS.
The directives followed a briefing by the Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, at the State House on Wednesday.
President Tinubu further instructed PenCom to urgently resolve the lingering issue of police pensions, stressing that officers who serve the nation must be assured of a dignified retirement.
Oloworaran also briefed the President on measures to preserve the value of pension assets amid inflation and economic volatility, alongside new plans to allow Nigerians in the diaspora to contribute to the pension system using foreign currency.
Backing the reforms, President Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to inclusive economic growth and greater protection for ordinary Nigerians.
