The Federal Government has declared Thursday, June 12, 2025, a public holiday to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day celebration.
The announcement, made public in a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Magdalene Ajani, was conveyed by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the government.
This latest declaration adds to an already shortened work week for Nigerians, following Monday’s public holiday in observance of the Eid-el-Kabir festival. Consequently, Nigerians will have two public holidays within the five-day workweek.
Tunji-Ojo, in the statement, congratulated Nigerians on over two decades of uninterrupted democratic governance and extended the government’s best wishes for the national celebration.
