APort Harcourt, Nigeria – Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that former President Goodluck Jonathan is “not our brother,” accusing him of failing to deliver major projects in the South-South region during his tenure.
Amaechi, speaking on Friday, questioned Jonathan’s development record, alleging that despite vast federal resources, the former president left key infrastructure, including the East-West Road, incomplete. He said he directed the Niger Delta Development Commission to complete the road to Jonathan’s village, provided water, and repaired sections of the Mbiama–Yenagoa route, while Jonathan used helicopters to travel home instead of fixing the roads.
The former governor also dismissed the ongoing coastal highway project as a “road of fraud” meant for embezzlement, vowing to abandon it if given the chance. He argued that completing the Oron–Calabar section would have effectively finished the East-West Road, and questioned why Jonathan did not do so as president.
Amaechi further condemned ethnic-based politics and what he called “progressive corruption,” contrasting past leaders who invested stolen funds locally with present-day politicians who, he alleged, move public funds abroad for personal pleasures. He maintained that leaders from any region must at least develop their home areas to set a positive precedent for future administrations.
