Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied making a social media post suggesting a return to presidential politics in 2027.
A viral post, shared on Instagram from an account bearing Jonathan’s name, criticised Nigeria’s current leadership and called for voters to make better choices in the next general election. The post read, “Since our current leaders are pretending to sleep, we pray that we will get our good leadership back in 2027; your choice will determine the betterment of our future.” It featured background music and an AI-generated image of Jonathan shaking hands with former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The post has since garnered over 16,000 views and more than 1,200 comments.
But speaking to TheCable on Friday, Jonathan’s media aide, Ikechukwu Eze, dismissed the post as fake, stressing that the former president does not own or operate any Instagram account.
“Former President Jonathan does not own an Instagram account,” Eze stated.
