The United Kingdom has turned down a request by the Nigerian federal government for the transfer of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, to complete his prison sentence in Nigeria.
Ekweremadu is currently serving a nine-year, eight-month jail term in the UK after he was convicted in 2023 for conspiring to exploit a young man’s kidney, an offence classified under the country’s organ trafficking laws.
The UK authorities reportedly declined the transfer request, insisting that the sentence must be served within its jurisdiction.
