As 2023 general elections gain momentum, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Rivers State has asked women to take the bull by the horn knowing that power will not be given to them on a platter of gold.
The association gave the charge during the commemoration of this year’s International women’s Day celebration.
NAWOJ maintains that now is the time for women to break the bias, create a society free of stereotypes, and discrimination by using their Personal Voters’ Card (PVCs) to get more women into positions of power especially as women usually have more numerical strength than men during campaigns and voting periods.
The association further enjoined women to restrastegise, encourage and sponsor women who are willing and well able to pick up forms to contest for positions of their choice.
Rivers NAWOJ sees this year’s celebration as a wake up call for all women to team up in unity and in one accord to ensure that all those men who are incompetent and gender insensitive do not smell the corridor of power.
” With your PVCs you can decide who leads you in 2023, the time to get the change you want politically is now, the time to demand your rights is now”.
Rivers NAWOJ strongly believes that when women are in power, growth and development are guaranteed stressing that one of the surest ways women can get the change they earnestly desire is by occupying positions of power.
On the recent debacle at the National Assembly, NAWOJ decried the action of the lawmakers, describing it as a wake up call the association urged women to use the commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day to demand their rights.
The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day is “Gender Equality Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow, break the bias”.
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATION TO ALL OUR WOMEN OF SUBSTANCE AND CALIBRE.
