The Federal Government of Nigeria has reacted to calls from various qurtares, for it to put an end to banditry and kidnapping in the country.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, during a press briefing on Tuesday, in Abuja, said banditry and Kidnapping are not Federal offences.

Lai said it was not the responsibility of the Federal Government to prosecute suspected kidnappers and bandits, because they are state offences.

He said people should call out the states, to ensure the arrest and prosecution of arrested bandits and kidnappers.

On the issue of terrorism which is a federal offence, he said the Federal Government has successfully prosecuted thousands of Boko Haram suspects.
