The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has reportedly been transferred from the Department of State Services (DSS) detention facility in Abuja to a correctional centre in Sokoto State.
Kanu’s former lawyer and consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed the development in a tweet on Friday, expressing concern over the transfer, which he described as a move that further distances Kanu from his legal team, family, and supporters.
Ejimakor, who appealed for calm among the Igbo community, questioned the rationale behind the transfer. He referenced the 1963 conviction of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, noting that Awolowo was taken to a “neutral zone” in the East during his political feud with the North.
He urged President Bola Tinubu to reconsider the decision, saying the situation could still be corrected.
Authorities were yet to react to the report as at press time.
