The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has announced a sit-at-home scheduled for Monday, February 2, 2026, across the South-East states of Anambra, Abia, Enugu, Ebonyi and Imo.
The group said the action is in solidarity with traders at the Onitsha Main Market, which was recently shut by the Anambra State Government.
Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Monday ordered the closure of the Onitsha Main Market for one week, citing the continued observance of the sit-at-home declared by IPOB since July 30, 2021.
The governor warned that the development was crippling the state’s economy and cautioned residents against further compliance with the order.
However, traders at the market said their participation in the sit-at-home was in support of IPOB’s detained leader, Nnamdi Kanu, who is standing trial over charges related to separatist agitation.
In a statement issued on Friday and obtained by our correspondent, IPOB accused Governor Soludo of working with what it described as “Abuja collaborators” to undermine the rights of Igbo traders and the Biafran self-determination movement.
The group subsequently declared what it termed a “Biafra-wide solidarity strike,” calling for a total shutdown of economic activities across the South-East and other areas it described as Biafran territories on February 2.
