ABUJA—The Presidency has dismissed recent claims by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar regarding an alleged EFCC investigation involving Lagos State, calling them unfounded and politically motivated.
In a statement released Sunday, the Presidency accused Abubakar of spreading misinformation through his media office, labeling his claims as social media gossip lacking credibility. It criticized the former vice president for engaging in what it described as “baseless speculation” to remain politically relevant.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the statement emphasized, is focused on governance and national development rather than engaging in political distractions. It described Atiku’s accusations as a desperate attempt to divert attention from his political struggles following his defeat in the 2023 presidential election.
The Presidency also called on Abubakar to play a more constructive role in national discourse, urging him to prioritize unity, economic progress, and democratic stability over divisive rhetoric.
Furthermore, the statement reaffirmed the independence of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), asserting that the agency operates without external influence and that any claims to the contrary undermine its integrity.
The Presidency concluded by reiterating its commitment to transparency, accountability, and national development.
