In celebration of this year’s International Day of the Girl Child, on October 11 2022, the Rivers State chapter of the Nigerian Association of Women Journalists, NAWOJ, has called on members of the public to partner with the organization to add meaning to the lives of women and children in the society.
Chairperson of the group, Susan Serekana-Nwikhana made the call in a statement while reeling out plans to celebrate this year’s event
She said students will be taught never to give up on their dreams no matter the challenges, and that gift items will be handed to them, on the said date.
Her statement reads,
Few Days To Go, October 11th
Annually is a day set aside globally for the celebration of girl child.
How best can the society change the negative narrative of the girl child?
Partner NAWOJ Rivers State Chapter to learn and know more as we take our campaign on issues facing the girl child to a remote village in Rivers State.
There we will be teaching students never to give up on their dreams no matter the challenges.
We will also be sharing some welcome back to school kits to them.
Try and touch lives positively in your own little by partnering with NAWOJ Rivers State to add meaning to the lives of the down trodden women and children in our society.
On December 19, 2011, United Nations General Assembly adopted Resolution 66/170 to declare October 11 as the International Day of the Girl Child, to recognize girls’ rights and the unique challenges girls face around the world.
