The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has convened an emergency reconciliation meeting between the two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at its headquarters in Abuja.
The meeting, which is currently ongoing, brings together the faction led by former minister Tanimu Turaki and the group aligned with former Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike, under the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed.
Turaki attended the meeting alongside members of his National Working Committee (NWC), officials of the party’s national secretariat and former Niger State governor, Babangida Aliyu.
On his part, Mohammed arrived with members of his national caretaker committee, including the committee’s secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.
INEC is expected to facilitate discussions aimed at resolving the internal leadership dispute and restoring unity within the opposition party.
