The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has resumed the nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and unveiled the full timetable for major elections scheduled for 2025 and 2026.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a quarterly meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners in Abuja on Tuesday. He disclosed that the CVR will begin online on August 18, 2025, while physical registration will commence nationwide on August 25. However, Anambra State will start earlier next week ahead of its November 8, 2025 governorship election.
Other key elections in the new schedule include bye-elections in 12 states on August 16, 2025, FCT Area Council elections on February 21, 2026, Ekiti Governorship on June 20, 2026, and Osun Governorship on August 8, 2026.
Yakubu also welcomed new national commissioners and RECs and announced plans for supplementary guidelines to clarify Section 65 of the Electoral Act concerning result reviews.
