The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declined to recognise the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki, citing subsisting court judgments and unresolved legal disputes.
In a letter dated December 22, 2025, and signed by its Secretary, Dr Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the commission said it could not accede to requests to acknowledge or upload on its website the list of national officers purportedly elected at the PDP’s National Convention held on November 15 and 16, 2025, in Ibadan.
INEC explained that its decision was guided by existing court rulings and ongoing litigation arising from the leadership crisis within the opposition party. The commission maintained that recognising any faction of the PDP while the matter remains before the courts would be inappropriate.
According to the electoral body, it will only take action when all legal processes surrounding the dispute have been conclusively resolved.
