The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has dismissed a viral graphic circulating online which claims that the Commission announced March 26 as the deadline for government officials seeking elective positions to resign.
In a public notice, INEC clarified that the information is false and did not originate from the Commission, describing the graphic as fake and misleading.
The electoral body urged members of the public, media organisations, and political stakeholders to disregard the message in its entirety.
INEC further stated that it has not issued any announcement regarding a resignation deadline for government officials intending to contest elections.
To prevent the spread of misinformation, the Commission advised citizens to verify all election-related information through its official communication channels. These include its official website, verified social media platforms, and formal press releases issued by the Commission.
The Commission reiterated its commitment to providing accurate, timely, and transparent information to the public while urging Nigerians to avoid sharing unverified content capable of misleading the public.
