Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), has identified the forthcoming Anambra State Governorship Election, scheduled for November 8, 2025, as a pivotal opportunity for the Commission to demonstrate its commitment to free, fair, and credible elections.
Professor Amupitan stated this on Thursday shortly after formally assuming duty as Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following a handover from the Acting Chairman, Mrs. May Agbamuche-Mbu.
Describing his appointment as a divine mandate to service, Amupitan pledged to uphold integrity, transparency, and discipline in the management of Nigeria’s electoral process. He urged INEC staff to “break down silos” and foster open communication to create an environment where every voice is heard and valued.
He stressed that staff unity and internal synergy were vital for strengthening democracy and restoring public confidence in the electoral system, which has been affected by voter apathy.
The INEC boss also assured that staff welfare would be one of his top priorities, promising fairness and accountability in addressing their needs and expectations.
