Former Governor of Rivers state, Chibuike Amaechi has said that the APC and SDP are contesting elections against the Independent National Electoral Commission and the Police, and not against the state governor, Nyesom Wike.
Amaechi, in a chat with journalists yesterday, described the elections in the state as “completely hopeless”, alleging that the chairman of INEC, Mahmood Yakubu worked under Wike as Executive Secretary of TETFUND.
He also said, Yakubu was reappointed by someone from Tinubu’s camp, adding that he was one of those who opposed his reappointment.
Part of his statement reads,
“I have spoken to everybody concerned on this issue before the election. There are those of us who opposed the reappointment of Mahmood.”
“The person who nominated him for appointment is a member of Tinubu’s camp. So what were you expecting – success?
“Here in Rivers State, Mahmood worked under (Governor Nyesom) Wike as Executive Secretary of TETFUND so what you see here in Rivers state is that APC, SDP and the rest are contesting election not against PDP – against INEC, against police.”
