The Institute for Media and Society (IMS) has reacted to the destruction and unwarranted attack on media houses by hoodlums during the #EndSARS protests across the nation.
Executive Director of the association, Dr Akin Akingbulu in a statement yesterday condemned the attacks stating that it is a threat to freedom of expression.
He said “…We like to state a reminder that the media organisations are an important and indispensable institution in our country. Little wonder that the Constitution of The Federal Republic of Nigeria mandates it to monitor governance on behalf of the people.”
“Attack on the media, in any form, is an attack on the performance of this function as it is a derogation on the
right.
He called on the government and other relevant agencies to bring perpetrators of the crime to book while compensation should be made available for such media houses and journalists.
