Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has appealed to residents of the state to remain calm amid the ongoing impeachment process initiated by the State House of Assembly, assuring them that the situation would be resolved peacefully.
The governor made the call during a church service held to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, where he expressed confidence that everything would be fine despite the prevailing political tension.
Governor Fubara explained that his decision to remain silent in the face of what he described as distractions was deliberate, noting that he draws strength and guidance from his faith in God.
Recalling his remarks at the New Year banquet held at the Government House, the governor said, “dogs bark when they do not understand,” a statement he used to underscore his resolve to stay focused on governance rather than distractions.
He spoke briefly before inviting his deputy, Prof. Ngozi Odu, whom he had earlier assigned to read the first lesson at the service, to address the congregation.
In her remarks, the Deputy Governor thanked worshippers for attending the service and urged them to maintain good conduct at all times. She aligned her message with the sermon delivered by the Dean of the Anglican Communion, Archbishop Blessing Eyinda, who had emphasised that every action would be remembered at some point.
Prof. Odu also appealed to the people of the state to continue to uphold the administration in prayers, describing such spiritual support as a key pillar sustaining the government.
